My Story

The whole world tries to make you feel not good enough, in order to sell you things you don’t need. I am in the “you are enough“ business. Reach your potential because you want to make your future self happy.

I’ve been somewhat of a digital nomad my entire life.  Growing up I moved from where I was born in the UK to New York where I would spend most of my young life, but not before stops in Canada and the Netherlands all before I was 4 years old.

Moving around so much from an early age, I always had to learn how to relate to different types of people.  I didn’t dream that I would grow up to coach people for over 25 different countries on the most intimate topics in their lives.

I always had dreams as a child of speaking on stage, having an audience and reaching people with a message that made them happy. As a child I used to dream of being a comedian, and even did stand up comedy one summer in NYC. I didn’t dream that I’d be speaking at a conference in Kiev this summer for 500 Digital Business Owners, inspiring and coaching them on how to build a freedom lifestyle of their own design.

When I finished university I was unfortunate enough to land a great high-paying job doing something I never wanted to do.  I had a new car, a nice apartment, and my legacy was shaping up to be training young people how to sell home internet service.  This was the riveting stuff dreams are made of indeed.

My big break came in 2008 when the economy collapsed and my comfortable sales management job disappeared over night.  I may have lost my income, but I’d found the freedom I’d forgotten while spending my days on the earn/consume treadmill.

Unemployed and spending most of my time by the swimming pool on my laptop, I started dreaming again.  Either I was going to be a writer, making people laugh and inspiring them, or I was going to play poker, because I’d always grew up playing card games, and when I saw other young guys winning loads of money on television I always knew I could do it too.

I didn’t know that the role of coaching is to massively accelerate the student’s path to results; results they may never reach doing everything on their own.

I did a google search for “ICM, EV & Donkey” which lead me to a poker education site. I never knew such a thing existed. I just thought that since I was smart, if I kept playing I was gonna learn it all on my own. I’d been playing poker for 1 year and was doing pretty well at the $5 level.

I enrolled in the training program, engaged in the community, started watching videos every night and every morning. With the proper guidance I was able to surpass the income of my old job, become ranked on worldwide leader-boards and move from NY to Las Vegas all within one year. By the end of that year I had gone from making $100/month from poker to making $20,000/month for 3 consecutive months.

My next big break came in 2011, when the US government shut down Online Poker and confiscated everybody’s winnings. I woke up one morning to discover that I had gone from “living the dream” in Las Vegas to unemployed and broke over night.

It was like a scene out of a movie. This was where I learned another valuable lesson:

You always have the choice to make the worst thing that ever happened to you into the best thing that ever happened to you.

For me, whether it’s been losing all my money, being forced to leave a country, or losing a meaningful relationship, I’ve consistently found a way to turn those situations into the foundations of a greater life.

In what I recall being a very difficult decision at the time, I decided to split from my relationship, leave all my friends, and leave the US to resume the life of a digital nomad, and to continue to pursue my dream lifestyle.  I even gave up my US residency some years later, for as a UK born citizen I was actually required to live in the US if I wanted to maintain the option.

Over the decade that’s been following, I’ve found homes in Australia, Mexico, Canada and Europe; accumulated 1 Godson, 1 Dog, countless international friends, and dated most enchanting women from all over the world, my favourite of whom I’m very pleased to call my current girlfriend.

I’ve had 6 figure winning years and 6 figure losing years.  I’ve loved and I’ve lost.  I’ve had moments where I was on top of it all and moments when I was so broken I didn’t know how I would make it though the day.  All of these experiences have taught me something, and for all of them I am now grateful.

Today, as the CEO of my own business, coaching hundreds of clients from all over the world on how to reach their dreams, one thing is glaringly obvious.

None of this would have been possible without the right teachers at the right time.

They say that when the student is ready, the teacher will appear, and that has certainly been true in my life.  I’m eternally grateful for all the people I’ve been fortunate enough to learn from in my life.
